Laser dentistry

Laser in detaistry are used to treat a wide range of oral health conditions, from tooth decay to discoloured teeth.

Lasers can give your dentist greater control during dental procedures. They can help reduce discomfort, shorten treatment times and minimise complications. Laser dentistry treatments may be performed entirely with the help of lasers or they may involve the use of other dental instruments.

Lasers are a relatively new feature of dentistry. Dental lasers use focused beams of light to remove or reshape tissue during restorative treatments, cure bonding agents and activate bleaching agents during teeth whitening.

Dentists need to complete specific training to become qualified in the use of lasers. Dentists who use laser treatments have a detailed understanding of how the technology works, how to use it safely and how to choose the right lasers and wavelengths for different procedures.

At KP Tooth Care we have been using laser to treat dental issues with great success for more than 10 years

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment or endodontic treatment is necessary when the centre part within the tooth, known as the pulp, housing the blood vessels, nerves and living connective tissues, become infected or inflamed. The root canal procedure is performed to save a damaged or badly infected tooth, instead of extracting it. This procedure is performed by an endodontist or a root canal specialist.

The most common causes of tooth damage or infection are, cavities occurring due to plaque accumulation, cracked or broken tooth due to any accidents or trauma, gum diseases, and repeated dental treatment to a particular tooth. These issues can cause pulp inflammation, infection and damage the pulp irreversibly. The person will at times experience excruciating pain. The pain may subside when the pulp dies, but very often returns as the infection spreads. Modern techniques and technology have helped root canals evolve into relatively comfortable treatments that often require less trips to the dentist.

Latest laser technology promises to change the way you experience traditional root canal therapy. This therapy uses a beam of intense light to clean out root canals. Laser therapy melts away debris consisting of bacteria and infection, and cleans the root more thoroughly than traditional treatments and also needs less time and causes less pain than a conventional root canal.

Laser technology also reduces possible side effects from the root canal procedure using minimal or no local anesthesia. Laser also reduces the amount of inflammation, swelling and discomfort often felt as the anesthesia wears off. Laser is perfect for reaching areas that metal instruments don't.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is surgically embedded into the jawbone to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. These implants are generally made of titanium or titanium alloy because they are highly biocompatible with the human body. They are absolutely safe and promise a long-term solution.

Dental implants have revolutionized the field of dentistry as they are a great way to permanently replace damaged, worn or missing teeth. Indeed, you get a tooth that looks and functions like the one you had before. With careful maintenance Dental implants should last a lifetime. Practicing excellent oral hygiene and scheduling regular dental checkups can prolong the life of the implants.

The General Steps Involved in Dental Implants

Generally, a dental implant would take up a time frame of three to nine months. This time frame is due to the healing process which would differ from patient to patient.

Dental Braces

Dental Braces and Retainers If you have crooked teeth and/or a misaligned bite (an underbite or overbite), there are a variety of treatments that can help straighten teeth, including braces and retainers.A dental brace is a component that has a bracket and a wire. It is basically a fixture used to exert pressure on the teeth to correct its position.

Why need a Dental Brace?

Alignment of teeth plays an important role in oral hygiene. Oral hygiene becomes cumbersome if the alignment of the teeth is imperfect. Some reasons why dental brace might be required.
  • Crooked teeth
  • Crowding
  • Spacing
  • Bite issues
  • Teeth rotated

The first step in the process of getting braces is finding out if you truly need braces. Understanding if and why you might need braces can be complex and varies with each individual. Also teeth position can shift and change at any age. So wearing braces at any age is fine.

Teeth Whitening

Until recently, the most common way to whiten teeth was to soak them in a solution of hydrogen peroxide or a similar substance. The procedure could be completed at home (using a weak peroxide solution) or in the dentist’s office (using a strong solution) – although often not covered by dental plans. Either way, whitening was completed over the course of several days or weeks.

As tooth whitening became more popular, some cosmetic dentists began to use lasers or similar lights to speed up the chemical reaction of the whitening solution. This whitened the teeth faster and required fewer whitening sessions. Unlike peroxide whitening, the new laser whitening cannot be done at home; it must be completed under the supervision of a qualified dentist.

All forms of tooth whitening work by releasing oxygen ions from a tooth whitening gel, which gently lift stains from the teeth. The laser simply lifts the stains faster. Another advantage of the laser is that (depending on the type of laser used) it can more easily be used to bleach one tooth at a time. This is helpful when one tooth is more discolored than the surrounding teeth.

The teeth whitening process is not permanent. Teeth can be re-stained, especially by cigarettes, beverages such as coffee or tea, or some foods. You may need to schedule a follow-up whitening session; the effectiveness of the whitening lasts for as few as six months or as long as several years.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Perfect smile captivates people and is one of the reasons why someone is viewed positively. A perfect smile has properly aligned teeth with the midline perfectly in the middle, has no discolored, broken, chipped or cracked teeth, and has no gum issues or other dental issues. Cosmetic Dentistry has evolved itself to provide an improvement in one’s smile. It encompasses both surgical and non-surgical procedures, and in the process creating better smiles.
